AlpinVisionen: Eagle Wings - Protecting the Alps

A project on climate change in the Alps

"We must take the eagle's eye view in order to make the right decisions for future generations" is an old Iroquois saying and the motto of the project.

The uniqueness of the project lies in the narrative style, which consists of three levels: The internationally renowned photo artist Nomi Baumgartl visually represents the human eye. The sea eagle Victor - equipped with a camera - stands for nature. He provides an unbiased view of his changed habitat. And the European Space Agency ESA provides the images from space and the scientific background.

In his presentation, Helmut Achatz shows the increasing impact of climate change on Alpine ecosystems. The aim of the project is to touch people with a combination of information and emotion and thus encourage them to think about their own ecological footprint.

Prof. Dr. Michael Rast, Senior Advisor to the ESA and Eagle Wings ambassador, puts it in a nutshell: "We have the information, Eagle Wings has the emotion".

Passionate alpinist Helmut Achatz was practically born with skis on his feet and is active in almost all alpine sports. He discovered his fascination for eagles while paragliding, where the graceful birds of prey often joined him and accompanied him in the air. He also noticed the gradual change in his beloved mountains, the decreasing amount of snow, the ever new snow cannons, the disappearance of the glaciers. Achatz wanted to do something and found the right partner in photographer Nomi Baumgartl. Together with her, he launched the environmental and Alpine protection project "Eagle Wings - Protecting the Alps".
