In her autobiographical book, French anthropologist and author Nastassja Martin recounts an incredible experience: at the age of just 29, she survived a fight with a bear on a research trip to the indigenous Evens in Kamchatka. "Believing in the Wild" is a diary-like account of the event and its consequences. Nastassja Martin reflects on what extreme experiences mean and can mean. Her text takes us to the edges of our existence, to transition zones and intermediate worlds. It is a touching and extremely exciting work about Martin's view of the relationship between man and nature - linguistically and intellectually electrifying and emotionally moving.
