Who is Mechthild? Mechthild is hip hop for people who like pop and pop for people who like hip hop, always a bit outside the box, sometimes right inside. Mechthild is love for music that makes you dance and think. Mechthild is a declaration of war against too little head or heart or both. After completing his studies in Stuttgart, the Freiberg native began pairing texts that had collected in the note app on his phone with beats from friends, and so the first tape Welle was created in 2022 in collaboration with producer Marius Venor. It's about things that come and go and feels like a vacation in Italy where you get lost because you smoked too much yesterday and are also in love.
A year later, after moving to Cologne, his second tape Online followed. In five tracks, Mechthild talks about the lack of perspective of digital natives, how the aestheticization of emotions is becoming more important than feeling itself (because that's complicated enough as it is). It all started in a storeroom. Even as nervous teenagers, the two of us tinkered with our own sound there, influenced by bands like Billy Talent or Royal Blood. A mixture of rock, emo, indie, punk and sometimes a healthy pinch of pop. In short, alternative rock that is easy on the ear. Over the past few years, we've been able to play a few club gigs and even festivals with it. And we can't believe it ourselves, reading our band name on posters between big names in the German music scene like Madsen, Wegen Lisbeth and The Intersphere.
"Behind Closed Doors" - On our album released in 2020, we deal with the feelings that accompany us every day. These can be very close and personal, like love and loss, but also distant and uncontrollable, like social hurdles and injustices. Despite this, we don't let it take away our good mood. Our music is for dancing, jumping and screaming.
