Styrofoam staged: artistic, sonorous and overwhelmingly beautiful | Ages 6 and up
We live with it and yet hardly notice it: polystyrene is everywhere. The most common form of plastic is the material that Andrea Salustri uses to create a play. He explores the possibilities of the white material and brings it to life. There is no narrative or weighty metaphors here, just extraordinary sensory impressions. You have to see it to believe it. At the same time, no one has to fear that new waste will be produced - quite the opposite: "All the polystyrene used in MATERIA's performances is collected and brought back to Berlin, where the company is based, to be composted by worms called Zophobas Morio. These worms have bacterial enzymes in their gut that can biodegrade and thus digest polystyrene." (Andrea Salustri)
