In her play, a monologue by a woman who, according to her personal wish, is to be played by a man, the celebrated author Yasmina Reza once again puts her finger in the wound that gapes between aspiration and reality, appearance and reality, will and ability.

Anne-Marie is an old woman, an old actress, but not one who had the world at her feet, not one who was celebrated as a "star" or even a "diva". Rather, she was one of the eternally "short-changed": the big roles and fees on the much-acclaimed stages, even the most sought-after men, were always given to others. Anne Marie had dreams for her life, dreams that did not come true, but she is without bitterness and does not hold it against her dreams that they did not come true.

Her unsparing but always humorous look back at her life is also a stocktaking of a declining era in which the theater was still a central venue for social debate and a mirror of intellectual and political discourse. Yasmina Reza mixes melancholy and highly comic moments in this life review of a theater artist.

Peter Lüchinger, in his last role at the bsc, plays the title character, the hostess of the evening, in whom role and personality merge into a uniquely oscillating entity. The role of Anne-Marie is tailor-made for Peter Lüchinger, an ensemble member from the company's (almost) first hour.
