Anne Thoss »... in der Ferne leise ...«

In the organizer's words:

Anne Thoss "... quietly in the distance ..."

"After years of in-depth involvement with painting, the focus of my work changed; collages, working with metal, digital image processing and installations were added. Since 2014, the focus has been on designing object boxes (old metal lockers in various sizes) using different materials such as epoxy resin, metal, canvas, paper and others.

Boxes and suitcases are often used to store and pass on stories and secrets. Each object box tells such a story, reports on an event. Different materials and techniques are used in the presentation and the boxes are subjected to a deliberate ageing process. The pictures are preserved in cast resin - this both freezes the story and makes it transparent. The viewer can open the box and engage with the subject matter, but can also close it if they need some distance.

The limits of what is feasible, bearable and unattainable, in which man moves, are the themes of the works and are intended to stimulate reflection and discussion. In various forms of representation, the aim is to attempt a visualization of individual and social responsibility; reflections on human history. The aesthetics of the presentation soften the impact of the themes without suppressing them. The questions they pose may be different for each viewer, but the answers can ultimately only be found in a society based on solidarity.

In addition, these themes are also produced in the form of processed photographs, also (partly three-dimensional), cast in epoxy resin in wooden frames, as well as prints on high-quality Hahnemühle paper in glass frames." Anne Thoss
