The fascinating Nordic superband ARCANUM was formed in spring 2023 and is made up of four outstanding artists: Markku Ounaskari on drums , Arve Henriksen on trumpet, Trygve Seim on saxophone and Anders Jormin on bass. Although they have already played together in various formations over the past two decades, this is the first time we have experienced the concentrated creativity and joy of playing of these four exceptional artists in a quartet.

Their first tour of Finland in March 2023 was completely sold out in advance, and the enthusiastic audience was captivated by this unique formation. The band explores original compositions by all members, with a special focus on free and narrative improvisations. Every evening with these virtuoso improvisers is a journey into the unknown, both for the audience and for the musicians themselves. All members of the quartet are well known through their numerous recordings with ECM over the last 15-25 years. When ECM producer Manfred Eicher heard about the existence of this new band, he was immediately enthusiastic and decided to bring them into the studio.
