The name "Argies" is the derogatory nickname for "Argentines", a term widely used by British soldiers during the 1982 Malvinas (Falklands) War. However, The Argies have nothing to do with the chauvinism prevalent on either side of the Falklands War. On the contrary: by adapting the insult, the anti-racist political punks consciously take the side of all minorities and outsiders, instead of nationalism they cultivate internationalism. Musically, the combo was heavily influenced by classic English punk from 1976 to 1979: The Clash, Sham 69, the Buzzcocks and the US bands Social Distortion and Rancid are among the Argies' acoustic reference points - Rancid also because their twelve albums to date feature ska, reggae and Latin influences alongside powerful rock.
