Arrest - eine Audio-Performance

In the organizer's words:

Erna K. works as a typist for the Gestapo. In prison, she meets politically imprisoned women: The communist Johanna Melzer, the Ukrainian forced laborer Marija Klimenko and a woman that no one can really judge: Is she really an anti-fascist?

The audio performance "Arrest" is about the role of women in the Nazi regime: three resistance fighters and a Gestapo employee are the protagonists in this audio play. Together with the sound designers from timecode audio, theater maker and actress Nicola Schubert develops an audio experience that the audience hears via wireless headphones. Together with Nicola Schubert, the audience moves through the Steinwache memorial site and retraces the women's paths. Parallel to the audio piece's docu-fictional radio play scenes, Nicola Schubert performs in the cells of the former prison.

The audio performance takes a look at the underrepresented group of women in Nazi historiography and questions rituals of German commemorative culture. The special feature of the project is that the performance - in addition to the Steinwache memorial site - will also be shown at the NS Documentation Center in Cologne from September. The history of both places has been incorporated into the text.

Nicola Schubert, born in Dortmund, studied theater and media studies in Bochum and acting at the HfMDK Frankfurt am Main and works as an actress, performer, author and director. In her "performative audio walks", a format she developed with her collective schubert-stegemann, the focus is on site-specific discussions of socio-political, historical and feminist topics. An audio piece forms the basis for performative works that move between acting and choreography.
