As part of the IX edition of the Settimana della Cucina Italiana nel Mondo from November 16 - 22, 2024 with the theme "Mediterranean Diet and the Origin of Cuisine: Health and Tradition", the Italian Cultural Institute Cologne presents the meeting "Commissars also eat. Piedmontese cuisine in the novels of Davide Longo" at the following locations/dates: November 20, 19.30, Buchhandlung Weltenleser, Oeder Weg 40, 60318 Frankfurt and November 21, 19.00, Theatersaal des Italienischen Kulturinstituts Köln.

As part of the two encounters, Laura Melara-Dürbek will be in dialog with Davide Longo and take us on a passionate journey through the crime novels featuring the detectives Vincenzo Arcadipane and Corso Bramard, including the new German publication "Am Samstag wird abgerechnet" (Rowohlt, 2024) (translation of "La vita paga il sabato" (Einaudi, 2022). It is well known that even literary detectives can be incorrigible gourmets, as if they wanted to use good food to sublimate the fact that they are constantly in a world of crime. The background to Arcadipane and Bramard's adventures is, of course, Piedmontese cuisine in its most original form, as experiencedin simple inns with authentic flavors in the plains, hills and mountains of the Piedmont region. Together with the author, we will follow in the footsteps of a tradition that lies between the lines and is ideally suited to the misty settings of his novels.
