80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz concentration camp
Oxford musicians Phil Freisinger and Sue Smith take their audience on a journey through the family history of the Viennese Freisinger family of Jewish origin.
Through images, the songs of their band Mighty Redox and stories of very personal experiences, they travel back to the Freisinger family's Holocaust tragedy - and forward to celebrate hope, life and joy.
Phil Freisinger's father, Robert Freisinger, was saved from the Nazis' deadly madness by the Kindertransports to England in 1938. As Bob Fryer, he became a well-known trade union leader in Cowley.
Phil Freisinger's stories touch on universal themes such as suffering, forgiveness and love, as well as the struggle behind these concepts. "Especially in difficult situations, solidarity can overcome the darkness and hateful political ideology."
The evening will be held in English and German.
