Psychologist Selma (Golshifteh Farahani) has a crazy plan: she wants to return to her home country of Tunisia to open a psychotherapy practice there. The self-confident Frenchwoman's plan is initially met with skepticism and resistance - but also a great deal of interest. This is because the Tunisian population's need to talk is enormous in the years following the revolution. Because the bureaucratic mills grind slowly, Selma receives her talkative clients on the roof of a residential building in Tunis. However, she encounters the curiosities and colorful characters of her old homeland in more than just her therapeutic sessions. Among others, she meets a highly emotional beauty salon owner with a mother complex, a depressed imam, a man with political-erotic dreams, a mysterious stranger with Freudian traits, an overly moral police officer and her feminist niece, who finds her headscarf just what she needs after a failed visit to the hairdresser... About Ostwestpassagen: 'Ostwestpassagen' is a private and volunteer-run foundation. It contributes to the dialog between cultures and focuses its work on a peace-promoting discourse between Orient and Occident. In keeping with the name of the foundation, events are held that highlight the diverse and multi-layered connections between the cultures and promote mutual understanding. The 'East-West Passages' open up access to sometimes unknown worlds and encourage an exchange about different, sometimes conflicting or shared interpretations of foreign cultures. The initiators strive for a differentiated perception beyond idealization and devaluation. The Ostwestpassagen cultural initiative was launched at the beginning of 2015 and its work was transferred to a foundation in 2022.
