In the organizer's words:

It is our pleasure to present the works of Mona Claudine, Gideon Pirx, Sven Rosé, Joanna Mortreux and André Kunz. Get to know the artists and enjoy the evening with good conversation and a drink.

Due to the great interest, we have extended our Franz Kaiser retrospective exhibition on the upper floor of our gallery until 20.09.24. Take the opportunity to discover the touching works of the artist, who died in 1971!

We are delighted that the "Friends of the Kunsthalle" are also organizing some guided tours through this special exhibition.

See you soon!

MONA CLAUDINE | MALTA

Mona Claudine's paintings are characterized by imaginary animals such as the orange fox, which are deeply interwoven with her experiences and encounters. These motifs are part of her personal mythology, which she creates in her works. Claudine is inspired by different cultures, mythological elements and the underwater world. Her colorful ones often contain self-portraits that create a personal connection to her art.

GIDEON PIRX | 1972 | HAMBURG

Gideon Pirx lives and works in Hamburg. His style is dynamic and expressionistic. The impasto application of paint is striking. Regardless of the format of the pictures, his passion for his craft and the pleasure he takes in the freedom of working with the medium is immediately apparent. The motifs speak to the viewer in a timeless language: Gideon Pirx's pictures are dominated by an infectious humor and the beauty of coming together. Pirx thematizes nonsense and raises questions about the failing and falling individual. According to Pirx, his painting always bears witness to his deeply humanistic attitude.

SVEN ROSÉ | 1967 | HAMBURG

The "Hamburg original from St. Pauli", Sven Rosé, gives materials a new face. What is waste for others is transformed into recycled art in his hands. Rosé uses fruit crates, coffee sacks and vinyl records to create his unique pieces.
The animal motifs have a special significance for Rosé and so he has declared them to be his "main characters". In his mixed media works, Rosé works with photographs that he takes in the city and inserts the main characters into the urban landscape in acrylic.

JOANNA MORTREUX | BERLIN

Mortreux studied painting at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology and is a French-Australian artist. She lives and works in Berlin and her artistic practice explores a sense of simultaneity. Using the techniques of painting and working with ceramics, her work explores the tensions, fragility and uneasy process of being. She creates anthropomorphic and almost sensual monuments, artifacts and sculptures that reflect our collective human history.

ANDRÉ KUNZ | 1976 | HAMBURG

In each picture you can see a sense of the underlying colors, which gives the picture a special liveliness. For this effect, he grounds the canvas with various neon colors before his figurative subjects take their place on it. The laughing, kissing, smoking people are unfamiliar to the viewer and yet very close. Kunz creates a collective memory of happy moments where interpersonal relationships take center stage and yet a certain tension is palpable.
