Exhibition: Passage - Photographs by Jürgen Wassmuth
A photographic travel project of the crossing of the South Atlantic on board the research vessel Polarstern from Cape Hope to Cape Horn.
"His photographs are not only art, but also souvenirs from a space he has left behind. The technically scientific effort describes a politically interested attitude that simultaneously confronts us with the melting of the no longer so eternal ice and the preciousness of the poetic experience, the temporal contradiction of the aesthetics of disappearance. (...) Jürgen Wassmuth's pictures convey the powerful feeling of a journey to the other side of the world. The photographs, whose radiant power makes looking at them an experience and can be compared to painting or moving film, make it possible to experience great things individually." The exhibition is accompanied by an illustrated book published by EDITION BILDPERLEN.
Jürgen Wassmuth: Photographer, writer, lecturer and coach, storyteller in pictures and words, art traveler. Studied economics at the University of Mannheim, photography at the University of Applied Science in Dortmund and the Parsons School of Design in New York. Founding lecturer of the photo art academy WennHeldenReisen, leads seminars and workshops. Member of the German Society for Photography DGPh and the Professional Association of Visual Artists BBK.
