Vernissage 19.11. from 19h
Shop window exhibition 20.11.-01.12.24 (illuminated 8-23h)
Barbara Jonasch is showing a selection of sculptural reliefs in her "Mystery Show". Her works are created using techniques that were already used in the 13th century. Wood, glue and chalk are the basic ingredients, historical to modern pigments and various binding agents such as oil or tempera give the objects depth and a special colorfulness.
The models are often figures found in ecclesiastical settings. However, these are abstracted through the use of cut-outs. Themes such as transcendence and creation are free from ecclesiastical dogma. The objects function as cult objects or devotional objects - consecrated to the mystery itself. This mystery arises from her love of the material and her historical research.
She draws on all epochs, all religions, the compendia of metaphysics and liberates their subjects from symbolism. Her objects are not representatives as in monotheism, rather the object itself in its diversity is the center of worship.
The artist is on site every day from 15:30 to 18:30 and produces an edition. This involves working on wooden panels using an old technique, which are all connected by the same format and the same basic depiction. However, she experiments with different techniques and historical and modern materials.
