BASIS FOR BEING نرگس

Sina Saberi's latest production BASIS FOR BEING نرگس was created during his eight-month residency at K3 - Center for Choreography in Hamburg. In it, he combines traditional and modern elements of Iranian dance and tells of his own empowerment almost unnoticed. The audience are invited as guests to a traditional house party in Tehran and at the same time embark on a journey through various states which, as the title says, form the basis of being. Saberi's BASIS FOR BEING نرگس is a poetic and deeply personal work and one of the utmost concentration. Because, as Saberi describes it: "I also see dance as a kind of mindfulness exercise." Sina Saberi only discovered the performing arts late in life. Only when his frustration with his office job at the UN became too great, only when his body increasingly yearned for expression in movement. Only then did he start attending performance courses. First physical theater, later dance. Born in Tehran in 1988, Saberi grew up in Iran. And thus in a country where the situation for contemporary dance has been delicate since the Iranian Revolution in 1979. All important dance institutions were dissolved at the time. The gaping hole left by this measure has still not been filled. Intellectual engagement with and artistic input from contemporary dance often only takes place virtually. Sina Saberi cautiously outlines the situation as a gray area and adds: "There is a lighter and a darker gray."
