You can hear in Julian Schmidt's fine piano playing that he has studied jazz piano
models such as Wynton Kelly or Sonny Clark. On this evening
the music of Cedar Walton, a leading pianist of the hard bop era, takes center stage,
including three years with Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers. Various compositions by Walton -
such as "Bolivia" - have gone down as classics in the jazz literature.
