ROU/HRV 2023, Documentary, 68 min
Director: Vlad Petri
Language: OmeU (Farsi, Romanian with English subtitles)
Zahra and Maria study medicine in Bucharest in the 1970s in Romania. They develop a deep, intimate friendship that lasts even when Zahra returns to her homeland, Iran, to help shape the revolution that is taking shape there. The friends' correspondence tells the story of two revolutions, with all their ambivalences, hopes and fears. However, the revolutions do not only remain on a political level, as they are inextricably linked to the personal perspectives and feelings of Maria and Zahra, who struggle with social norms. The film is a harmonious interplay of visual archive material, fictional correspondence based on real documents from the Romanian secret police and outstanding sound design.
