BLACK LIVES AUDIO TRIPTYCH – A Tribute to Hilarius Gilges, Fasia Jansen and Joseph Ekwe Bilé

In the organizer's words:

Black German Arts and Culture e. V. is showing Ina Wudtke's BLACK LIVES AUDIO TRIPTYCH - A Tribute to Hilarius Gilges, Fasia Jansen and Joseph Ekwe Bilé from November 14 to December 31, 2024 in the studio stage of the Hofgartenhaus in Düsseldorf.

In the audio installation, the artist Ina Wudtke activates archive material, in particular songs, texts and photos relating to the agitprop artist Hilarius Gilges (1909-1933), the political singer-songwriter Fasia Jansen (1929-1997) and the politician and actor Joseph Ekwe Bilé (1892-1959). The three protagonists were active in the context of the workers' movement against racism and colonialism and were internationally networked. Their connections to Düsseldorf and NRW are also undisputed. For the first time, the three audio stations will be installed in one place. The Studiobühne will become a meeting place for Black German history(ies).

The Black speakers Kofie "Da Vibe" Boachie as Hilarius Gilges, Jasmin Eding as Fasia Jansen and Jeanne-Ange Wagne as Joseph Ekwe Bilé can be heard in three textile audio booths. The audios are in German and English.
