PICK OF THE DAY
You cannot miss this event.
In the organizer's words:

It's going to get tough again at Umschlagplatz. Be there when bands from near and far come to Dortmund on the weekend of July 19-21 to celebrate the summer with you.

The opening will take place early Friday evening with acts from the region and all over Europe. Our popular children's and family program will also take place on Saturday. On Sunday, we will close the Bunt oder Blau Festival with a fantastic flea market (which, like the family program until Saturday afternoon, is of course free of charge).

You can expect: Nices food, refreshing drinks, our children's face painting, a graffiti workshop, the children's rights project, some chess boards and much more.

We proudly present our line up: BIENSÜRE (FR), Daily Thompson (DE), Secret Night Gang (UK), Walking on Rivers (DE), Flame Parade (IT), Riot but Cute (DE), Gabriel Marciano Quartet (IT), Margo (DE), Beards with Girls (DE), Research Group 7 (IT / TWN)

Friday 19.07.

Walking on Rivers

If we open the Dortmund lexicon, the band description of this formation should be found under 'Best home-grown': Walking on Rivers! Following the success of their EP "Time to Lose Control", the Rivers are currently busy writing new songs and bringing them to Bunt oder Blau 2024. Last year, they toured Germany as support for Walk off the Earth, among others. This is especially great news for the Bunt oder Blau team because we've never been able to make it in the last two years and now it's finally happening 💛

Biensüre

Can you imagine anything under "Kurdish Psychedelic Disco"? Neither did we at first. But the quartet from Marseille is guaranteed to pick you up with this blend, combining the multicultural, hip scene from the Mediterranean city with Anatolian influences - all framed in danceable, clever disco grooves from the 70s and 80s. Listen to "Eyvah Eyvah" to warm up!

Flame Parade

The story of Flame Parade began in 2012 in an old Tuscan farmhouse. In the following years, they would develop a refined and contemporary sound somewhere between shoegaze, folk and indie rock.

In the fall of 2021, they produced a new EP entitled "Echoes": a suite of expansive atmospheres and tempos in which keyboards, strings and guitars breathe between post-rock and dream-pop vibes. The ethereal and dreamy narratives of the earlier works accompany Flame Parade on new artistic paths: The first single "One of These Days I'll Steal Your Heart" (2023) perfectly expresses Flame Parade's new, refined universe through ethereal dream-pop and shoegaze sounds with an international flair, marking a new natural evolution for the Tuscan band.

Margo

Margo from Cologne makes indie pop with a certain retro flair.
She has been writing songs on the piano since she was 18 and has created her own world in recent years. A world populated by lonely astronauts, forest girls and mediocre goldfish, wrapped up in English and German lyrics, led by Margo's dreamy voice that lets you dive deep into it.
Her first single "Pink Vision" has already been played several times on the radio (Radio Fritz, Flux Fm, WDR 5), and her latest single "Backseat Dreams" was placed on the worldwide Spotify playlist "Fresh Finds", as well as on the "Fresh Finds GSA (Best of 2023)".

Saturday 20.07.

Children's and family program

On Saturday we start with the legendary children's and family program. From 11:00 there will be stands and activities, including the Dortmund Youth Ring's children's rights project, face painting, a graffiti project by the JKC, a chess workshop and play area, a play and sports bus and much more. Musically, there will also be something for our younger guests: the Toddler Rave from previous years will be there again this year, as well as a rock concert for young and old by the fantastic band Bärte mit Mädchen.

Daily Thompson

have established themselves as an up-and-coming force in the international alternative/heavy rock and stoner psyche scene. With the release of their sixth studio album CHUPAROSA, the German power trio once again showcase their unique blend of desert rock, grunge and noisy power blues that will make you want to turn up the stereo, open the windows and start an endless road trip.
At APL Studios in picturesque Port Orchard near Seattle, the band created an album that promises to be the next step in their career.
The six songs on CHUPAROSA were recorded in collaboration with stoner rock / heavy psych icon TONY REED at the controls, capturing the spirit of the energetic and sweaty live performances that made many a jaw drop.
And as the icing on the cake, Bob Balch from FU MANCHU plays a rousing solo on the first track of the new album.

Secret Night Gang

It's time for our big international act: the jazz-funk-soul masters from Secret Night Gang! Manchester natives Kemani Anderson and Callum Connell put this great band together in the vibrant live music scene of their city in 2021 and played their way into the hearts of fans and international music critics at breakneck speed. Signed to Gilles Peterson's Brownswood label, the band set themselves on course for further success and were nominated as best band of the year by Jazzfm in the same year. With their latest album "Belongs on a Place Called Earth", the groovy spaceship from the UK is now also landing at the Umschlagplatz and making the festival all the more unforgettable.

Riot but Cute.

Len, Luis, Tibor. These three best friends from Dortmund will really heat you up on Friday with their unmistakable sound of indie and midwest emo. They've been making music together since they were 15 and have caused quite a stir with gigs at Juicy Beats, the FZW and as support for DRENS. "Straight out of kindergarten", Len replies when asked in the STROBO interview how long the boys have known each other. You can hear this friendship in every note - and riot but cute. invite you to be a part of it.

Gabriel Marciano Quartet

The quartet of saxophonist and composer Gabriel Marciano was founded three years ago in Rome with the aim of making music with a group of musicians that emphasizes interaction and a strong personal connection. The music on his debut album, which was produced by the renowned Italian record label Parco Della Musica Records, was written entirely by Gabriel. Gabriel Marciano's music tells the story of his life over the past ten years, in all its facets, from the most incredible experiences to the enormous significance of places, people and things that have become part of his life. The album will be recorded in May 2023 at the Ennio Morricone Auditorium Parco della Musica recording studios in Rome. The title of the album "A Reason To Believe" recalls the continuous and constant pursuit and realization of the ambitions he has carried within him since childhood.

Research Group 7

Research Group 7 is an interdisciplinary modern dance ensemble consisting of graduates of the Folkwang University of the Arts, one of the world's most renowned universities for modern dance. The ensemble is developing a performance especially for the "Bunt Oder Blau" festival that creates an integrative expression of movement and sound.

Beards with girls

The girl band founded in 2023 around Charlie, Kiki, Rike and Toni originally came together in the rock tutorial at TU Dortmund University to take the piss out of the seasoned gentlemen of rock history with glued-on moustaches. This project has developed into a rousing, fresh band that will be performing their own feminist songs and marking the transition between the family and concert areas on the Saturday of the festival. If you want to dance, you can dance, if you want to sing along, you can sing along, because the motto here is: You can!
