He is the pop star and bird of paradise of the organ scene - the American organist Cameron Carpenter. For with his mad virtuosity he elicits from even "sacred" classics like Johann Sebastian Bach an energy and sensuality never heard before.
"My God is called Bach," the American Berliner-by-choice Cameron Carpenter once confessed. That's why a work by the Thomaskantor absolutely has to be heard in his solo recital - and musically in "Technicolor," according to Carpenter. Of course, the organ version of Mussorgsky's "Pictures at an Exhibition" is no less spectacularly colorful. The Romantic composers César Franck and Johannes Brahms, on the other hand, took up the great Bach legacy with their organ chorales.
