Carolin Emcke im Gespräch mit Asal Dardan

As an author, journalist, cabaret artist, racing driver, world traveler and style icon, Erika Mann was far ahead of her time: courageous, creative, progressive and with a clear attitude. Carolin Emcke

Publicist Carolin Emcke studied philosophy in London, Frankfurt am Main and Harvard and wrote her doctoral thesis on the concept of "collective identities". From 1999 to 2014, she worked as an international reporter focusing on human rights and crisis regions. Emcke reported from Kosovo, Afghanistan, Iraq, Gaza, Colombia and Haiti, among others. She has been working as a freelance journalist since 2014. In her books, essays, columns and artistic interventions, she deals with the topics of violence and trauma, anti-democracy and racism, sexuality and desire.

Asal Dardan

Asal Dardan grew up in Germany as the child of Iranian parents and the experience of exile has shaped her. In her texts, she examines German society, sets out in search of a common language and asks how the eternal contrast between "us" and the "others" can be bridged. She moves from personal experience to the socially and politically explosive and shows that living together means accepting difference.

The Erika Mann Lecture is a joint project of the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München, Rowohlt Verlag and Holtzbrinck Berlin - Inspire Together in cooperation with the Monacensia im Hildebrandhaus and the Cultural Department of the City of Munich.
