Soundtrips NRW, the state-wide concert series for improvised music

On St. Nicholas Day, the Parzelle Verein e.V. invites you to the 71st round of Soundtrips NRW at the Parzelle im Depot. Mexican-born touring musician Angélica Castello meets two musicians from NRW at the nationwide concert series for improvised music: Achim Zepezauer and Oona Kastner.

Born and raised in Mexico, Angélica Castelló came to Vienna at the end of the 1990s. She has been active in the contemporary cultural scene there ever since.

She plays the Paetzold (a special bass recorder), composes for concert halls, stages, radio plays and films and performs as an electronic musician. Sound installations, improvisations and performances are all part of this energetic artist's active repertoire. Her sound universe revolves around the enigmatic land of lost memories, death and traumatic encounters, fragility, the dream world and the unconscious. Her work is characterized by a "realismo mágico sonoro" (sonic magical realism). The artist defines her music as "abstract, but it is very concrete people, stories and dreams that inspire me". Angélica Castelló has created numerous compositions for orchestras and ensembles as well as fixed media, radio works and installations that operate at the interface between music, performance and visual art. She is present as a soloist and in various international collaborations between Mexico City and Vienna.

Oona Kastner is a wanderer between worlds, the arts, times and styles. This is reflected in her divergent biography, which tells of her personal and artistic versatility. She is a singer, pianist, composer, keyboardist, sound artist, choir director, workshop instructor and teacher for voice, piano, Alexander technique, voice training and improvisation.
Among many other projects, she is a member of the musicians' collective THE DORF, founded by Jan Klare.

Achim Zepezauer has been equally influenced by music and art since his childhood. Studying art brought him closer to music and since working as a musician he has felt a connection to art. This is why his works often seek out their interface and lead to performances, concerts or installations. Achim Zepezauer is also a member of the musicians' collective THE DORF, founded by Jan Klare.
