CHARLES DE GOAL
II Wave Punk from France II

Patrick Blain (aka Charles de Goal) started to play bass in various bands around 1973. Rock music in 1974-1976 was boring to death to him, and the Punk explosion of 1976 was a revelation to him - especially bands like Devo, Wire, XTC and Gang Of Four.

He called his musical self Charles de Goal, and released in 1980 his debut album, Algorythmes, on burgeoning label New Rose Records, including their (underground) dancefloor hit "EXPOSITION". Quite surprisingly, the record was very well received, including in countries like Germany or the Netherlands, and Algorythmes sold 15 000 copies, a figure the totally unknown artist he was at the time could only dream about. And that was before Charles de Goal had ever played live (the first show will occur in 1985 only).

In 1982, Charles de Goal joined a project called Danse Macabre, who released a self-titled mini album considered today as a Goth Rock classic. After a two-year hiatus, Charles de Goal released "3", in 1984. More radio-friendly than the previous ones (especially on songs like "Technicolor") it got a lot of airplays in France. Eventually, a backing band was put together and Charles de Goal began to tour, but the live sound remained frustrating for Blain. The last record of that first Charles de Goal era, Double Face, was released in 1986.

French record label MAY I will reissue the first Charles de Goal albums these days.

Charles de Goal is now:
- Patrick Blain: vocals/guitar
- Thierry Leray aka AE: guitar/synths
- Dimi Déro drums/backing vocals
- Vinz Guilluy bass/backing vocals
