Today, China maintains the most comprehensive surveillance state in the world. In addition to technical monitoring, surveillance relies on the labor of many relatively poorly paid people who evaluate surveillance videos, are on site and observe people. Entire industries have established themselves around the government's surveillance objectives. The export of these technologies from China is steadily increasing and is supported by Chinese government bodies.
