Christian Ludwig Attersee. Aus der Sammlung Klewan

In the organizer's words:

In what is now the fourth exhibition from the rich collection of former gallery owner Helmut Klewan, the MMK Passau is showing works by Christian Ludwig Attersee, one of the most internationally renowned contemporary Austrian painters. Attersee is also known as a poet, songwriter, filmmaker, stage designer and designer, who, as a once successful sailor, named himself after his sailing area. He took part in documenta VI in 1977 and the Venice Biennale in 1984.
The Passau exhibition marks the first time in 16 years that Attersee's works have been exhibited in Germany (most recently in Bremen in 2008). The show also continues the tradition of the museum, whose founder Hanns Egon Wörlen showed Attersee's works here in 1995 as part of the city's baroque festival "Passauer PArock".
Attersee's colorful, dynamic paintings are characterized by figurative and ambiguous motifs, often with a tendency towards erotic satire. They are not only a mirror of human experiences and projections that have found their way into art history for centuries, but also invite us to enter into a dialog through their open approach to these themes. In doing so, they trust in our maturity and ability to deal responsibly with complex issues.
In addition to the approximately 80 works from the Klewan Collection, which were created between 1964 and 2000, Attersee is showing six paintings from 2009-2023 from his studio. A brochure will be published to accompany the exhibition.
