Aribert Reimann, sensitive representative of contemporary music, loves the Romantics. He dressed some of their piano songs in crystalline string sound. Christiane Karg's magical soprano will make them shine together with the Aris Quartet.
Reimann embedded the melodies from distant times in his quartet versions in an almost fairy-like manner. He treated "Sechs Gesänge" by Schumann and Brahms' "Ophelia Lieder" just as sensitively as the Mendelssohn selection, which he arranged into a new cycle. For this he composed filigree interludes, "reflections in my musical language," according to Reimann, "on a Mendelssohn song already heard or following." Pure Mendelssohn, on the other hand, can be experienced with the lively E-flat major string quartet.
