Clémence Manachère - “Unterwasser” im Jazzraum

Under the surface of the water, our perception changes, as does our sense of space, time and movement. Our senses also perceive things differently under water than on land - as if a gauze cloth were covering our eyes and ears, allowing us to see only contours and hear sounds as if they were far away. While the former certainly describes a laboratory situation, the latter allows us to perceive the underwater world as primeval and mystical. Good reasons for Clémence Manachère, who lives in Hamburg in the south of France, to call her current band Unterwasser: not only does the unconventional instrumentation with two drums, percussion, wind instruments and bass bear witness to the expression of her creativity, but it also shows how much she thinks "out of the box" and conceives her music.
She was awarded the Werner Burckhardt Music Prize for her style. In jazz, as a composer and bandleader, she is an exception!
