ClubJazz: "Gnar Gnar Rad"

In the organizer's words:
Gnar Gnar Rad (Gnaar, Gnaar, Räd) is a project by Frankfurt-based double bassist Moritz Koser, for whom jazz can be rough, uncomfortable and even punky - as long as it happens in the groove.

Their declared aim is to find their own way somewhere between Charles Mingus and Ornette Coleman, incorporating modern influences and taking every freedom they can. The young musicians deliberately refrain from paying respect to tradition, they don't want to take anything too seriously, deconstruct everything and then rebuild it - and have as much fun as possible in the process. Musically, the quartet moves between punky hard bop, free passages, groove-based pieces, pop and noise. The band does without a harmony instrument.

This creates more unoccupied tonal space, which on the one hand gives the band members greater freedom in their interpretation, but also places more responsibility on them and presents a challenge for composition and arrangement.

The debut album "Gnar Gnar Rad" was released in 2024: a strong statement with which the musicians effortlessly bridge the gap between jazz history and the present day.
