In the organizer's words:

"A moving play about Germany's colonial heritage." (KulturKenner)

With ice skates on your feet and radio headphones on your ears, immerse yourself in a truly two-fold experience in Cologne's Lentpark: there is Sarah, who offers the ice skating taster course "Sometimes it hurts"; and Mr. Montenero - the janitor - lets you in on the secret of the smooth ice. But then a brittle voice speaks up and talks about Kilimanjaro as the peak of Kaiser Wilhelm. A bygone era comes to the surface: in 1884/85, a few years after Germany's first ice rink was opened in Frankfurt, the Berlin Africa Conference took place. Its final document, the Congo Act, was the starting signal for the race for Africa. Within three decades, the Europeans subjugated the continent almost completely to their rule, exploiting the land and the people. The transatlantic slave trade and colonialism still have an impact today - even in Cologne.
In a collaboration between Black* and white* artists, a piece has been created that shows the narratives and continuities that have led to Germany being imagined as white and Black people as the "others" for so long.
COLONIA ON EIS is an immersive evening on the ice rink for skating, listening, unlearning, relearning, howling and time travel. With beats and hits that go into the blades, with artificial snow and art haters, with professionals, amateurs and beginners.
Let's all become better skaters!
