Copa 71 is a captivating documentary about the first international women's football tournament, which took place in Mexico in 1971. Young teams from Europe and South America competed for the final. With 100,000 spectators in the two largest stadiums in Mexico, the tournament was a huge success, but it was never recognized by FIFA. What could have been a starting signal for women's soccer worldwide was not supported after the Copa. A global expansion and acceptance of women's soccer was prevented across countries. The film presents impressive archive footage of the tournament as well as current interviews with the players of the time. Copa 71 rewrites soccer history.

The film won the Audience Award at the IFFF Dortmund+Cologne 2024.
