CORDIALE 2024 "Together as one"
September 27 - October 03, 2024

CORDIALE has been taking place at E-WERK every year around October 3 since 2018. It is an intercultural format in which a jury of people with multiple affiliations or migration experience puts together the program. People with and without a history of migration present their diverse talents with exhibitions, readings, panel discussions, dance, DJs and performances. This year's jury consists of Khathutshelo Muthivhi, Alex Moepedi, Kirstie Angstmann and Owusu (artist).

The Africa Day with its interdisciplinary program on 3 October has also become a fixed item on the CORDIALE program.

Opening ceremony "Together as one" & vernissage Black Faces of/in Freiburg

On September 27, we will celebrate the start of the festival with music and food by BIPoc under the motto "Together as one". At the vernissage, we will also open the photo exhibition Black Faces of/in Freiburg by Malika Ouis & A Sister, curated by A Sister.

The photo exhibition Black Faces of/in Freiburg will be accessible for the entire duration of the festival from September 27 to October 3.

The exhibition aims to document people of color who live and work in Freiburg. It is intended to help change the stereotypical and often negative narrative about black African people. The exhibition aims to show a real picture of us, by us and for us.

Mailka Ouis is a young and aspiring self-taught photographer. She specializes in street photography and has recently moved into event and party photography. She has already worked with AfroVibes and AfroTonic. She has also photographed commissioned work for the supermarket chain EDEKA.

This event presents the work of BIPoc artists. A diverse jury will award an honorary prize to empower them for the local entertainment industry. Before the award ceremony, workshops for Amapiano and Afro-Dance will be offered by the dance group Asambeni.

The dance group Asambeni was founded by young people with different migration backgrounds living in Freiburg. They dance a variety of African dances and offer Afrobeat and Amapiano workshops at CORDIALE. Open to all interested parties.

As an intercultural festival, it is important to us to award prizes to people with a migration background who play an important role in Freiburg's entertainment industry.
In many cases, it is very difficult for people with a migrant background to gain a foothold in the event industry, and DJs face the challenge of even getting a chance to play their music in clubs.
However, many migrants are getting involved and in recent years this has paved the way for the younger generation, who now have more opportunities. As CORDIALE, we would like to thank those entertainers with a migrant background who continue to perform, get involved and play their music.

Kirstie Angstmann and Georgina Hoffhans tell the Ghanaian children's tale Ananse and the Wisdom Pot with music, drums, song and dance. Kwaku Ananse is a cunning spider who often outwits humans and her fellow spiders.

Arriving in Freiburg - a book of encouragement

Ukrainian women had to leave their homeland and have now arrived in a new place. Despite tragic circumstances, they enjoy life, help others with their talents and their positive view of the future. Their book Ankommen in Freiburg gives tips on initiatives and organizations that can be useful when arriving in Freiburg.

POPULAR MURDER IN RUANDA | Judence Kayitesi & Divine Umulisa Gashugi

Judence Kayitesi survived the genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda in 1994 as an 11-year-old child. In Germany, she has published the books Ein zerbrochenes Leben and Choosing Resilience.

The documentary filmmaker Divine Umulisa Gashugi (pseudonym Tete Loeper) from Rwanda focuses
migration, decolonization and intercultural competence in her work The Face of Resilience.

At CORDIALE, the two will talk about their work, read and show their works.

INVISIBLE: SCENES FROM LIFE
Theater performance

In this play, the actors shed light on their own experiences. They have roots in Gambia, Iraq, Nigeria, Russia, Turkey, Togo, Ukraine and Germany.
The scenes are set in different countries and shed light on secret prisons, hidden poverty, invisible violence and deception. But they also tell of the courage of the protagonists.

Duration: 60 minutes, no intermission.

Fashion Show & Afro Music Party

Celebrate the Pre-Africa Day Party with us. With a live act by AKEVA Malayika, DJs Mi Linki and Fj Twice and a fashion show by Cameroonian fashion designer Moustapha Chris Nsangou with the label Afro-Style CVT.

Mi Linki comes from Gambia and has lived in Freiburg for several years. He is one of the best Afrobeat, Dancehall, Reggae and Amapiono DJs who is very well known in Freiburg and the surrounding area. He is the true definition of resilience.
Dj Twyce is also one of the best-known DJs in Freiburg. He has his roots in Ghana and likes to get people dancing with his DJ skills with Afrobeat, Amapiano and reggae.

Live performance artist AKEVA Malayika lives in Stuttgart and is one of the best musicians Baden-Württemberg has ever had. People have enjoyed her mesmerizing voice and guitar playing at many open-air concerts. She will once again be performing her outstanding live music at CORDIALE 2024. And she is not a new artist in Freiburg, she already performed at the Africa Day in Freiburg in 2023.

The fashion show is coordinated by Afro-Style CVT. Both women's and men's clothing is produced under the Afro-Style CVT label. The clothing is inspired by African touches and colors. The new collection by fashion artist Moustapha Chris Nsangou will be shown and celebrated at the fashion show. Spectators will have the opportunity to get in touch with the label.

Africa Day 2024 "Power To The People!"

Africa Day was initiated by LEA refugees and has been held on German Diversity Day, October 3, since 2017. In memory of the boat accident on October 3, 2013, we commemorate the 366 people who died that day off Lampedusa.
The Africa Day as part of CORDIALE is a festival of associations working with refugees such as Our Voice from Radio Dreyeckland, FAIRburg, the Cameroonian association ACAF, Ghana Union, GAI and women's groups from Eritrea and Gambia.

In this edition, AKEVA Malayika from Stuttgart will be the main act with their Pan-African soul. Another highlight will be Pape Dieye with M. Schweizer. The Freiburg bands Thival with Swing Ekang or Beuz&Band will fill seven hours of the stage program. Blacka offers reggae & rap, as do Marijani & GUJU GAJA. We listen to the poet Golden and watch the traditional fashion show by A. Fofana and can look forward to a children's program and delicious food from various African countries.
