Così fan tutte

In the organizer's words:

In love, engaged, married, divorced - between neo-conservatism and open relationship concepts, every life and love decision seems possible these days. Not so for Mozart's characters as children of their time, whose fidelity is put to the test in an obscure wager: Alfonso tests the relationships of his friends Ferrando and Guglielmo, because he does not believe in the fidelity of their partners Fiordiligi and Dorabella. Ferrando and Guglielmo accept the bet and the emotional rollercoaster ride begins.

The two women can hardly wait to see their fiancées again, but Alfonso throws a spanner in the works. He feigns that the two men have been called up for war and so the game of morality, temptation, jealousy, passion and loss takes its course.

This ensemble piece moves between commedia dell'arte, opera buffa and big enlightenment questions, never forgetting the (self-)irony. As in their two previous collaborations, the congenial duo of Mozart and Da Ponte explore the inner paradoxes of their protagonists and leave their audience in doubt: what is play, what is serious?

This chamber play as a school for lovers, as the subtitle suggests, will be staged on the Schauspielhaus stage by Vivien Hohnholz, who is making her debut as a director at the Staatstheater Kassel, under the musical direction of Kiril Stankow.
