Damir Imamović // Sevdah-Konzert

Damir Imamović (born 1978), singer, musician, author and Sevdah master from Sarajevo, represents a new generation of Sevdah, the traditional music of Bosnia-Herzegovina, with which he has toured Europe, the USA, China and Mexico, recorded seven albums, written a book about it and starred in a documentary film.
He has received numerous international awards. His album "The World and All That It Holds" from 2023 accompanies Aleksandar Hemon's acclaimed novel of the same name, which the Washington Post described as "brilliant" and the author of "Cloud Atlas", David Mitchell, as a "masterpiece".

The war has driven the two protagonists of the novel far away from Sarajevo. They sing for each other - out of longing for their homeland and for each other. Imamović's album, sometimes exuberant, sometimes melancholic, accompanies their story with original compositions, old Sephardic songs and newly interpreted Sevdah classics, powerful and emotional. The themes: same-sex love, war and loss, displacement and longing.
