Dan Croll is a solo artist with a versatility that puts even some bands to shame. His musical approach encompasses electro sounds that catapulted him into the club scene and close ties to the folk scene, where Communion Records discovered him and put him on their "New Faces" compilation. Croll, a multi-instrumentalist, has already impressed legends such as an ex-Beatle with his songwriting skills.

In 2012, Croll's rise began when his demo recording "Marion" did the rounds in the UK as a Q Essential download.

The next demo track "Home" was soon playing on Steve Lamacq on 6 Music, until finally his official debut single "From Nowhere" was acclaimed by UK Radio 1. His distinctive Buddy Holly glasses easily disguise his past: he was once a rugby prodigy whose professional career was halted by a broken leg. The 23-year-old, who worked as a bouncer in a nightclub and lived above a strip joint in Liverpool, shows a different facet in his soulful acoustic sounds.

Born in 1990 in Trentham, a suburb of Stoke-On-Trent, Croll followed in the footsteps of his musically gifted mother, who loved jazz, blues and folk. His first musical love was the nu-metal of Blink-182 and Sum 41, before his sister introduced him to The Strokes and The Libertines. From the Beach Boys to Beirut and Grizzly Bear, Croll's musical horizons were wide-ranging. Even as a teenager, he mastered the guitar, bass, piano, drums and even the trumpet. He usually spent his weekends in Liverpool with relatives, which later led him to the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts. There he studied music and was taught by greats such as Eddie Lundon (China Crisis) and Keith Mullin. He soon won the "Songwriter of the Year" award from the Musicians Benevolent Fund and had a private session with Sir Paul McCartney, who praised his work and described it as "groovy".

Croll's compositions are a balance between acoustic and electronic sounds, as can be heard in the tracks "Home" and "Marion". His first single "From Nowhere" garnered him a lot of attention: the song was played on UK stations such as Radio 1, XFM and 6 Music and quickly reached 100,000 plays on SoundCloud. It even topped the Hype Machine charts.

Part troubadour, part electro wizard, Croll is an update on Beck and the link between Jake Bugg and Joe Mount. His debut album "Sweet Disarray" was released in 2014 on Deram Records. "I want to make sure that music that really has life in it, that tells stories, that is honest, finally becomes mainstream," says Croll. "I'm interested in music that really comes from the heart."

His latest and fourth album "Fools", which was released in May 2023, shows Croll at a crossroads. After five years in L.A., which changed his sound, "Fools" poses the question of whether it is time to return home. The album, recorded at the legendary Spacebomb Studios in Richmond, Virginia, weaves a web of country, disco and psychedelics. Co-produced by Croll himself, it received praise from critics and fans alike.

"A wonderful example of a songwriter doing what comes naturally to him," says Clash.

"Pop-perfect beauty," praises the Sunday Times. "Dan doesn't so much bypass genres as conquer several at once," notes PRS. Croll remains an artist who touches with his honest and versatile music.
