DANCE SHOW IN SWING STYLE

The Wanted Posse company from France are multiple hip-hop world champions and regularly wow sold-out houses with their humorous and virtuoso dance shows. With Dance N' Speak Easy , the six dancers transform our stage into an illegal speakeasy pub during the Prohibition era in the USA. In a wild mix of hip-hop, burlesque, the music and swing dances of the 20s and 30s, they tell a story of drunken mobsters fighting over a sensual dancer.

CELEBRATED HIP-HOP WORLD CHAMPIONS

In France, they are stars and regularly sell out theaters and attract enthusiastic audiences: the Wanted Posse company from near Paris is the best-known representative of French hip-hop. They have won several world championship titles, including the Battle of the Year contest, performed in musicals such as The Lion King and worked with stars such as Madonna and Robbie Williams. With Dance N' Speak Easy, the ensemble is now showing its virtuoso skills for the first time in Munich in a breathtaking and witty production.

DANCE BATTLE TO THE MUSIC OF MILES DAVIS, BETTY BOOP AND CO.

In a small, run-down New York pub, five drunken mobsters fight over a sensual dancer in the stifling heat. They dance to the jazz of Miles Davis, who performed in the secret speakeasies in his day, to the soul-funk of James Brown, who was an important source of inspiration for hip-hop, but also to cartoon songs featuring Betty Boop and Jessica Rabbit, a reference to the pin-up girls of the bars.

A COCKTAIL OF HOUSE DANCE AND CHARLESTON

Choreographer Njagui Hagbé and director Philippe Lafeuille have come up with a surprising cocktail of hip-hop dance, singing and burlesque for this show. Different styles come together, but are adapted to the swing dances of the 20s and 30s. This creates a unique atmosphere in which the aesthetics of house dance merge with the wild steps of the Charleston, the performance of breakdance with the liveliness of Lindy Hop and free style hip-hop with the rapid rhythm of the jitterbug.

THE ILLEGAL SPEAKEASIES OF THE 20S

During Prohibition in the USA, illegal bars sprang up where you had to speak quietly in order to buy alcohol. Many jazz dancers and musicians were able to develop freely in these so-called speakeasies. Dance N' Speak Easy is a tribute to these artists who did not bow to fear but defended their freedom to dance.
