Dancing Queen

12-year-old Mina (newcomer Liv Elvira Kippersund Larsson in an astonishing debut) is bright, brave and still wrapped in a layer of baby fat. She is at the tender age when childhood games with her best friend Markus are still commonplace, but boys are beginning to pique her interest. She is in seventh grade in the small Norwegian village of Hamar and is supported by a loving, close-knit family that includes her free-spirited grandmother (Anne Marit Jacobsen), once known as "Funky Juicy Mama". But Mina's world is rocked by the arrival of handsome new student Edwin (Viljar Knutsen Bjaadal), also known as E.D. Win, famous hip-hop dancer. When Edwin announces that he wants to form a dance group at the school to win the Mjøsa Challenge, the shy middle school girl doesn't let a little thing like not dancing stop her. But while Mina practices new moves under Grandma's guidance, the pressure to fit in with her hip new "friends" takes its toll: her grades deteriorate and tensions at home mount.
