Sonja Ruf's heroines are experienced and "jaded" or naive and exuberant. In any case, their adventurous desires turn their entire lives upside down . Sonja Ruf's stories are socially accurate and true to reality, but she allows for wonder and the uncanny. She opens a window or two into another world, draws on themes from world literature, quotes the "ancients" with a wink and yet remains entirely in the present. The title story "Das Flussbad-Wunder" is set during the Corona period, in which the heroine has lost not only her love but also her parents, whereby a seemingly genuine miracle (or was it just a trick of the protagonist?) puts everything in a different light.

Sonja Ruf grew up in the 350-soul village of Schömberg in the northern Black Forest. She trained as a publishing bookseller in Stuttgart, studied medieval and modern history in Frankfurt am Main, then lived in Leipzig, the Rhön and Saarbrücken before moving to Bremen in the fall of 2023. She has been inventing stories since early childhood, writing a diary from the age of eight, which became a literary notebook. Her novels and stories deal with the longing for love in the broadest sense, developing her own language for female eroticism. Since women are usually the desired object in world literature, literature that portrays women as desiring subjects must be written from scratch. This language should not only narrate in a non-manneristic way, but also sound. Sonja Ruf thinks socially, is familiar with the dodges of the human condition, deals with the effects of modern working environments on people's feelings and wrote a highly acclaimed children's novel "Mallows oder Katzengrütze". In 2022, a volume of five sensual stories was published -
