In "Life is adventure enough", stories from everyday life are told. They have a mixture of lightness and depth. Doyle, who comes from New Jersey, talks easily and sympathetically about the difficult experience of his quadruple heart bypass operation.

John Doyle has been one of the best stand-up comedians in Germany for many years. Otto Waalkes said of him: "I didn't know that a Yank could be so funny in German."
