Jay Gatsby enters the exclusive circles of the super-rich in 1920s New York as a dubious social climber. He wants to get closer to his former childhood sweetheart Daisy Buchanan, who has since married and is leading a sophisticated life. While Gatsby tries to impress Daisy with fabulous displays of his wealth, his modest neighbor Nick Carraway observes the frivolous goings-on of the upper class as a confidant of many a secret. The weakest fall victim to society's ruthlessness and self-centeredness and the longing for solidarity turns out to be an illusion without foundation. Ewelina Marciniak brings this masterful novel to the stage with her strong visual style. A new theater version expands Fitzgerald's story to include the voices of those who are dependent on the upper class corrupted by wealth.
