Der Zinnsoldat und die Papiertänzerin

In the organizer's words:

by Roland Schimmelpfennig freely adapted from the fairy tale "The Steadfast Tin Soldier" by Hans Christian Andersen

For all ages 8 and up

There are two toys on the windowsill that couldn't be more different: A tin soldier who is missing a leg and a paper dancer who stands on one leg and stretches the other leg to the sky all day long. The child, who is celebrating his birthday that day, has sorted them out because of their shortcomings and simply left them there. A sudden gust of wind blows the two figures off the windowsill. The tin soldier, as heavy as a small stone, lands on the floor, while the paper dancer, as light as a feather, is whirled high into the air. An adventure journey begins and in the world beyond the children's room they encounter strange and dangerous creatures on their separate paths: a mean pair of twins, a self-centered cloud and rats guarding borders, a possessive magpie mother and an immensely hungry but slightly indecisive giant fish. Their strength and hope of surviving this journey and seeing their familiar counterparts again allow them to defy all the adversity and arbitrariness they are at the mercy of. Yes, and sometimes it simply takes a miracle to make wishes come true.
