Once upon a time there was a paper dancer and a tin soldier with one leg. Nobody wanted to play with these two toys. Discarded, they end up on the windowsill and suddenly fall out. A dangerous adventure begins. He, heavy as a stone, falls down - she, light as a feather, is whirled high into the air. They encounter sinister figures who stand in their way, but the two, who nobody wants, do not surrender to their fate and fight. For their story and their love.

Schimmelpfennig's version of Andersen's fairy tale "The Steadfast Tin Soldier" is a story about the power of storytelling. The play begins with a doubt. "We were already as good as burnt," says the tin soldier. "Only, how are you supposed to tell a story from the beginning if you're going to be burned at the end of it?" The two toy figures resist the familiar ending of the fairy tale and fight for the right to tell their story from their own perspective.
