Much has been written about the links between Germany and Israel and there are strong opinions on the subject. The book Ich sehe was, was Du nicht siehst. Germany. Israel. Insights, edited by Alexandra Nocke and Teresa Schäfer, brings together 35 interviews with people who are in the public eye and look at both countries from different perspectives.
One of them is the journalist Marcel Reif, whose father survived the Holocaust as a Polish Jew. "Be a human being" - his father gave him these three words, this mission, even though he otherwise remained silent about his memories. Marcel Reif talks to one of the editors of the anthology, Alexandra Nocke, about home, fear and hope.
Ich sehe was, was du nicht siehst aims to break down narrow views, give space to contradictions and shed light on the diverse relationships between Israelis and Germans from a new and very personal perspective. The contributions are personal, approachable and subjective. They are an expression of our fragile world situation and the current difficulties in dealing with each other.
