The mad scientists of American New Wave have finally been given a worthy documentary. Chris Smith and editor Joey Scoma weave concert recordings, music videos, old and new interviews, drawings by keyboardist Mark Mothersbaugh and animations into a playful, anarchistic collage. The spirit of the band with its mixture of ideas from Dada, Warhol and trashy science fiction could hardly have been better captured. Variety sums it up well: "DEVO is as much fun as the band."
