A large light sculpture hangs above the stage. Nine dancers and a DJ gradually occupy the space and move through different moods, sometimes meditative, sometimes highly energetic, but always in connection with each other and the audience. Connections - between people, places, bodies and communities - are a theme that repeatedly drives the Brazilian choreographer Renan Martins. In a fun and critical way and influenced by his personal experiences as a queer person of color in Europe, Renan Martins combines dance and music with political reflection. Inspired by Bell Hooks' book All About Love: New Visions, Renan Martins and Unusual Symptoms deal with our relationship to relationships and intimacy. Diamonds is a dance from separation to connection, about a society that constantly reinforces individualism. But how long can we endure without a relationship, without belonging, without togetherness?
