Die Art emerged at the end of 1985 from the predecessor band Die Zucht and was one of the so-called Other Bands in the GDR. With their rather dark punk-inspired songs, Die Art helped to shape the musical landscape of the reunification period.
Over the years, the band developed a sound that is difficult to categorize. Dark wave, indie pop, guitar pop or post punk are valid terms that never quite get to the heart of the matter.
After the band broke up in 2001, a second productive phase began in 2007 and has continued to this day.
