When Anthony Penrose (Josh O'Connor) discovers long-forgotten photographs of his mother Lee Miller (Kate Winslet) in the attic of his parents' house, he begins to delve into her past. The more he delves into her life, the more he realizes how extraordinary it was: Lee Miller was not only a cover model, Man Ray muse and photographer, but above all a passionate and strong-willed woman who constantly challenged the expectations and rules of her time. During the Second World War, she convinced the editor-in-chief of British Vogue (Andrea Riseborough) to take fashion shots in the middle of destroyed London and eventually went to the front in France as a war correspondent and photo reporter. Together with her close friend and colleague David E. Scherman (Andy Samberg), Lee Miller was one of the first to photographically document the crimes of the Nazis in Germany on the day the Buchenwald and Dachau camps were liberated. After the war, no one wanted to publish her testimonies of horror. Traumatized and disappointed, she destroys the negatives and banishes the photographs to her attic - but the memories of what she experienced will never let her go....

With her directorial debut THE PHOTOGRAPHER, successful cinematographer Ellen Kuras ("Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind", "The Betrayal") creates a vivid memory of an exceptional American artist who was far ahead of her time. Oscar-winner Kate Winslet ("The Reader", "Mare of Easttown") plays the title role in this fascinating portrait of a woman whose unique talent and relentless tenacity created some of the most influential images of the 20th century. She is supported by an outstanding cast: Alexander Skarsgård ("Succession", "Big Little Lies") as English artist and Lee's husband Roland Penrose, Andrea Riseborough ("Amsterdam", "W.E.") as a tough and dedicated London Vogue boss, Andy Samberg ("Saturday Night Live", "Brooklyn Nine-Nine") as Lee's loyal friend and life photographer David E. Scherman, Marion Cotillard ("Annette", "The Taste of Rust and Bone") as the fashion director of French Vogue and Josh O'Connor ("The Crown", "God's Own Country") as Lee's son Antony.
