Merciless humor, lovably quirky characters and plenty of catchy tunes: the musical comedy "Die Königs vom Kiez" by Martin Lingnau, Heiko Wohlgemuth and Mirko Bot has been a real crowd-pleaser on Hamburg's Reeperbahn for over ten years. Directed by theater director Corny Littmann, "probably the most warm-hearted declaration of love to St. Pauli" (Hamburger Morgenpost) about a chronically bankrupt family of seven and their escapades has already delighted well over 400,000 visitors to the Schmidt Theater. Now the weirdest clan in St. Pauli is moving to the Rhineland for three months: after the start of rehearsals in September, the Cologne production will celebrate its premiere at the Volksbühne am Rudolfplatz on November 1, 2024. Here, too, Corny Littmann is personally directing the production, which is scheduled to run until January 26, 2025.

Fate must have played a cruel trick on this family in St. Pauli when it gave them the surname König of all things. The cash register and fridge of the seven-member flock are permanently empty - even though the four children Marie, Björn, Benny and Pamela do everything - really everything! - to keep the clan (including bedridden grandma and 15-year-old Pamela's baby) afloat. However, their efforts are thwarted less by creditors and the authorities than by their own father: the permanently alcoholic head of the family, who is allergic to honest work and is known by everyone as Captain, throws everything his offspring bring in the door out of the window with his hands full. Only the love-struck but greying neighbor Berta is able to keep the captain in check for a short time with clearly ambiguous advances. When an eviction notice is threatened in the basement of their home, fate finally seems to take his jokes too far - but as we all know, the neighborhood sticks together!
