(2014)

Guided tour of the Keupstraße & SCHAUSPIEL

2021 marks the 17th anniversary of the nail bomb attack that shook Keupstraße in 2004. The bombs seriously injured 22 people, several of them critically. For years afterwards, the investigation was conducted exclusively by local residents. Victims and relatives of the attack were stigmatized as potential perpetrators. The police investigators actively concealed indications that the attack was racially motivated. In 2014, director Nuran David Calis worked together with three local residents and three ensemble actors to create the play DIE LÜCKE, in order to give a voice to the people whose lives were deeply shaken and changed by the attack. When LÜCKE premiered, the trial against the members of the so-called National Socialist Underground in Munich had only just begun. It was to last a total of five years and end with a devastating verdict for the relatives of the victims, as many of the co-defendants got off with very light sentences and some were released immediately after the end of the trial. When the guilty verdict was published last spring, the murder victims' lawyers also complained that the court had failed to give them a face.
In DIE LÜCKE 2.0, an adaptation of the original production, the three victims from Keupstraße are questioned again after seven years. How do they perceive the NSU court verdict and the guilty verdict? What is the current status of the memorial, the place of remembrance and learning near Keupstraße that is still being planned? And what is it like to live in Germany after the attacks in Halle, Hanau, Chemnitz and Kassel?

The play addresses racism and right-wing terrorist violence.
