Picandou the mouse lives under the cellar stairs of Mrs. Fröhlich's delicatessen in Deichstraße. He couldn't live any better, because cheese is his everything. But when he hears that Mrs. Fröhlich has to close the store, he sees his paradisiacal life in danger and wants to do something about it. As fate would have it, he meets three rodents who will not leave his side: the rat Gruyère, who sees himself as a mouse, the pub mouse Pomme de Terre, and the spoiled Blankenes hamster Bertram, who gives the friends the name "Muskeltiere" (muscle animals). An intimate friendship develops between the four of them. They swear to always stand up for each other and experience exciting adventures in the exciting port city of Hamburg.
